Family vacation, August
2007
Our family escaped to our "cabin
in the woods", our getaway in Western New York, this past Labor
Day. Our little cabin is located on 3.5 acres in Java, NY, in the
heart of Dairy Country in Wyoming
County. Within a comfortable driving distance is Niagara
Falls, a yearly visit for us! and Letchworth
State Park, AKA the Grand Canyon of the East. Our escapes to
New York allow us to visit family and get some much needed R&R.
Mom and Norm
live next store, a few acres over. Aunt Pam and Uncle Larry live
only about 2 miles away. A trip to visit Pam and her cows is a must
on every trip! Last year, Kam and Cole witnessed the miracle of
birth, as on one of our visits a cow was having a calf. They were
more interested in chasing the farm kittens around, actually! Other
things we like to do are: visit Darien
Lake Family Resort (formerly Six Flags), go exploring at Audobon
Society's Beaver Meadow, and go for breakfast at the Lanz Bulk
Food and Family Restaurant, run by the local Amish. This past trip
up we spent some time clearing weeds out of the pond.
Kam and Cole enjoyed playing with the frogs (their favorite
"pet" was named Swimmy) and swimming in the pond. Kaan and Alex
drove up for the weekend, which ws a nice treat for us. We get to
do so little together, since Kaan is working and going to school.
We all went to Niagara Falls and had dinner at the Hard Rock Cafe.
Kaan and Alex went across the border into Canada----we aren't sure
what they did there! The next day, we all enjoyed Pam
and Larry's Annual Labor Day Party. It's always fun to see cousins,
nieces, nephews, and friends we rarely see. Can't wait to get back
up there!

This is our little Sylvi. She came to us
at just 5 weeks old, barely bigger than a hand. She is such a part
of our family that none of us can imagine life before her. She is
quite the character...plastic bags can keep her entertained for
a while, she plays fetch like a dog with her "scrunchy" balls, she
comes when called, she "helps" me do the laundry by monitoring the
washer as the clothes spin, and she always likes to cuddle while
I'm working on the computer. And, amazingly, none of us highly cat-allergic
people are bothered too much by her!
In the Atlantic Ocean, went fishing for Bluefish (Kofana)
I caught some big ones. I caught about
11 of these. It was a lot of fun.
